A Mom's Letter to Santa

I've been really busy lately and haven't had time to post anything but I saw this and thought it was pretty funny. Parts of it really hit home.


Dear Santa,
I've been a good mom all year. I've fed, cleaned and cuddled my children on demand, visited the doctor's office more than my doctor and sold sixty-two cases of candy bars to raise money to plant a shade tree on the school playground. I was hoping you could spread my list out over several Christmases, since I had to write this letter with my son's red crayon, on the back of a receipt in the laundry room between cycles, and who knows when I'll find anymore free time in the next 18 years. Here are my Christmas wishes: I'd like a pair of legs that don't ache (in any color, except purple, which I already have) and arms that don't hurt or flap in the breeze, but are strong enough to pull my screaming child out of the candy aisle in the grocery store. I'd also like a waist, since I lost mine somewhere in the seventh month of my last pregnancy. If you're hauling big ticket items this year I'd like fingerprint resistant windows and a radio that only plays adult music, a television that doesn't broadcast any programs containing talking animals, and a refrigerator with a secret compartment behind the crisper where I can hide to talk on the phone. On the practical side, I could use a talking doll that says, 'Yes, Mommy' to boost my parental confidence, along with two kids who don't fight and three pairs of jeans that will zip all the way up without the use of power tools. I could also use a recording of Tibetan monks chanting 'Don't eat in the living room' and 'Take your hands off your brother,' because my voice seems to be just out of my children's hearing range and can only be heard by the dog. If it's too late to find any of these products, I'd settle for enough time to brush my teeth and comb my hair in the same morning, or the luxury of eating food warmer than room temperature without it being served in a Styrofoam container. If you don't mind, I could also use a few Christmas miracles to brighten the holiday season. Would it be too much trouble to declare ketchup a vegetable? It will clear my conscience immensely. It would be helpful if you could coerce my children to help around the house without demanding payment as if they were the bosses of an organized crime family. Well, Santa, the buzzer on the dryer is calling and my son saw my feet under the laundry room door. I think he wants his crayon back. Have a safe trip and remember to leave your wet boots by the door and come in and dry off so you don't catch cold. Help yourself to cookies on the table but don't eat too many or leave crumbs on the carpet.

Enough already!

And they are home from school again today. Yes, we got a lot of snow so it makes sense. But it's getting old fast. I can't get anything done. I just got done shoveling the sidewalks and now I've sent Donovan out to do the driveway. It's good for him and it keeps him away from the girls. He and Paige spent all of yesterday and this morning fighting.

Seriously?

We're on our second snow day and it's not even Christmas. At this rate they won't be out of school until July. Right now Paige and Donovan are outside playing in all the snow. We got about 4 inches last night and they are predicting up to 7 more by morning. I hope we don't get that much, I'd really like them to go to school tomorrow.

It's been a while since I've had a chance to get on here. We've been busy! The weekend after Thanksgiving we had something going every day. We got up at 4 on Black Friday and did a lot of shopping. It was great having Kadey here to watch the kids so we could both go. I am amazed at how much we bought that day and confused as to how we still have so much shopping left to do.

On Dec. 4 we made a trip down to Lansing to see James baby #5. Little Harper is adorable! Holding her almost made me want another one. I just love newborns. I just remember my obnoxious 6 and 8 year olds and the feeling is gone again!

Last night Paige performed to Frosty the Snowman at their dance Christmas party. It's not a huge thing but she had fun. I was only going to take Paige because there are never enough seats but Tessa was crying because she wanted to go see the dancers. I ended up sitting on the wet floor with them but they were both very good and had fun watching the dances so it ended up being a nice night for us girls. I forgot to take the camera but she looked very cute and did a great job!

Paige's Tooth

Paige finally lost one of her top front teeth. It had been loose for months. She almost had it out Thursday night. She was twisting and pulling and it was bleeding so I told her I would help her get it out. She stopped messing with it and told me, "No Mama, I want to lose it at school tomorrow." So she left it alone and sure enough, the tooth came home from school in an envelope Friday. I'm sure her teacher really appreciates her saving that for school! She has a little lisp now, it's actually really cute!

First Snowmen of the Year!

We got the snow that was predicted for today. It was a perfect snow for making snowmen. It's too bad we still had so many leaves on the ground though, the snowmen look like they need a bath!

Madonna!

Last night Jon and I went to see Madonna perform at Ford Field. I think it may be my favorite concert ever! It was absolutely amazing!!! I haven't really kept up with her newer music but it really didn't matter. Even when I didn't know the song it was still fun. She played more of her old music than I thought she would, so that was great. I really liked how she updated "Borderline". At one point she asked for a request for an old song. The first suggestion she got she just said "No, I'm not singing that song." I wish I knew what it was! She ended up doing "Material Girl" with no music and her singing one line then the crowd singing the next. It was actually really cool. The set was amazing. The graphics and dancing were incredible. Even Jon enjoyed it. We were on the floor and I'm so glad. The people sitting in the regular seats seemed to spend most of the concert sitting. It would have been awful not to be able to dance and sing!

We didn't get home until 2 a.m. and today has been pretty rough. I think I'm getting to old to be doing this. I'm not sure how Jon managed to get up at 5:30 for work, getting up at 7 to get the kids ready for school was hard enough! Thank goodness for Kadey coming over to stay with the kids and getting them to bed on time. She even skipped her night class to help us out. The kids had a lot of fun and it was a nice treat for them to have Leah come play.

Getting Started

I've been thinking about starting a blog for quite awhile now. Eventually I'm hoping it will be a way for people to keep up with things going on in our life. I'm guessing it will also be a place for me to vent once in a while, which will hopefully help me keep my sanity.
